After her retirement from public schools, she did not stop teaching. She teaching at Private Schools as she is now teaching at Metropolitan International College in White River, Mpumalanga and she is consistently producing good results for Grade 12 Geography.
In January 2018 she was given a Standing Ovation Award by the then Mpumalanga Department of Education MEC, Ms Reginah Mhaule.
This was during the Provincial Awards Ceremony held at the "Word of Light Church " in Leroro Village on January 5th 2018.
In an interview with media, Gogo stated that Teaching is her passion it is not about money and it is a calling to her. It is out of her love for education." Teaching is a crucial and essential service that needs educators who can do the ground work without excuses" she said.
She added that children are not just objects, they are human beings who have a future. She appealed to educators that they should not be weary because learners are the ones who will take over when we leave.They are important.

Gogo Nontsikelelo Qwelane
Over 79 years in teaching and she is still on the field. She was born in 1920 in the Eastern Cape at Engcobo. She began school in 1928 at a missionary school which played a crucial role in moulding her to be a hard worker, disciplined, and dedicated individual that she had become.
She finished high school in 1936 then she enrolled for a 3-years teacher's course which she completed in 1939.
Her teaching career started in 1940 at All Saints Training School in Engcobo in the Eastern Cape. While teaching she continued her educational journey, She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1975; Diploma in Development Studies in 1983; Higher Education Diploma in 1993; and a Bachelor of Education in 1996, all she completed through Unisa.

My parents were teachers, Both mom and dad. Teaching is the only language we have ever understood as kids at home. It was only natural that we followed their foot-steps, said Nomakhwezi Nkosi Gogo's Daughter who is a retired Principal from a public school. Both me and my sister Nomonde Ndimande we had also followed careers in Education.Nkosi said that her mother was a strict woman who always ensured that they are reading their books even during school holidays. "Play time was minimal to us as children and i believe it was my mother's authorotarian nature that ensured our future as teachers".
Gogo Qwelane who is a Geography teacher, teaching Grade 10 - Grade 12 believes that she was born to edify knowledge and that is what she dedicated her life into.
